Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein found in human erythrocytes. It plays an important role in maintaining the mechanical stability of red blood cells. Several GYPC mutations have been described:
- Gerbich and Yus phenotypes: caused by deletions of exon 3 and 2, respectively
- Webb and Duch antigens (glycophorin D): result from single point mutations in the GYPC gene
The glycophorin C protein shows little homology with glycophorins A and B.
