MELK (Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase)은 세린/트레오닌 키나아제로, AMPK 계열과 관련되어 있으며 세포 주기 조절에 관여합니다. MELK는 암에서 과발현되는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 잠재적인 항암 치료 타겟으로 연구되고 있습니다.
MELK는 다양한 기질을 인산화할 수 있으며, BCL2L14, CDC25B, MAP3K5/ASK1, ZNF622 등을 인산화합니다.
- MAP3K5/ASK1을 활성화하여 세포자멸사를 유도
- CDC25B의 인산화를 통해 세포 분열 시 중심체 및 방추극으로의 이동 조절
