Product Specific Information

Monoclonal antibody B8E5 acts by functional dimerization of the receptor, stabilizing constitutively active receptor dimers and inducing a small decrease in carbachol affinity for the M2 receptor.
It recognizes the pentapeptide VRTVE (aa 168–172), corresponding to the N-terminal part of the second extracellular loop of the human M2 receptor.

Target Information

Muscarinic cholinergic receptor 2 (CHRM2) is an acetylcholine receptor that functions as a presynaptic autoreceptor inhibiting acetylcholine release.
The M2 receptor is also involved in smooth muscle contractility.
In Alzheimer’s disease, selective loss of M2 subtype receptors occurs in cortical and hippocampal regions.
Increased M2 receptor heterozygosity has been associated with depression in women.
M2 receptor expression has been reported in the brain (cerebellum, cortex, hippocampus, medulla, striatum, thalamus) as well as in lung and prostate tissues.
