ERLIN1은 ERLIN1/ERLIN2 복합체의 구성 요소로, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs)의 ER-associated degradation (ERAD)에 관여합니다. 또한 세포 내 콜레스테롤 항상성 조절 및 SREBP 신호 경로 조절에 관련되어 있으며, 콜레스테롤과 결합하여 SCAP-SREBF 복합체의 ER 유지에 기여할 수 있습니다.
