Target Information
The nucleoprotein (NP) of Influenza A virus encapsidates the negative strand of the viral RNA and is essential for replicative transcription. It may also be involved in other essential functions throughout the virus life cycle. NP binds ssRNA and self-associates to form oligomeric complexes. It interacts with viral polymerase subunits PB1 and PB2, as well as matrix protein M1. NP also associates with cellular proteins including importin nuclear receptors, filamentous actin, CRM1 nuclear export receptor, and DEAD box helicase BAT1/UAP56 (Portela et al., 2002).
