The immunogen is a synthetic peptide derived from the human Ki67 protein.

Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, especially in late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that allows binding to euchromatin at the perichromosomal layer, centromeric heterochromatin, and the nucleolus.
Expression patterns of Ki-67 vary across the cell cycle: perinucleolar in G1, nuclear matrix in G2, and chromosomal during M phase.

Because Ki-67 is absent in G0 cells and increases steadily from G1 through mitosis, it serves as a key proliferation marker. Ki-67 antibodies are useful for determining the growth fraction in neoplasms, with strong correlation between low Ki-67 index and low-grade tumors. It is routinely used as a neuronal marker for cell cycling and proliferation studies.
