PKM2는 갑상선 호르몬과 상호작용하여 세포 대사 조절에 관여하며, Neisseria gonorrhoeae의 Opa 단백질과 결합하여 세균의 부착 및 침입 과정에도 관련된 것으로 보고되었습니다.
세 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체가 존재하며, 두 가지 이소폼을 암호화합니다.
