Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons, and bicarbonate ions. It is abundant in mammalian tissues and plays a key role in pH regulation.
CA IX is highly inducible under hypoxic conditions via HIF-1 alpha and serves as a reliable histochemical marker of hypoxia. Inhibition of CA IX increases cell death under hypoxia, highlighting its importance in cellular pH regulation and hypoxia response.
