Product Specific Information
MA5-14003 targets Bax in Western blot, FACS, immunohistochemistry (paraffin), and ICC/IF applications and shows reactivity with human, mouse, and rat samples.
This antibody is not recommended for Jurkat cells in Western blot applications.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide (aa 12–24, Cys-GPTSSEQIMKTGA) of human Bax protein, shared among human, mouse, and rat.
Target Information
BAX is a member of the Bcl-2 family and plays a critical role in apoptosis regulation.
While Bcl-2 is anti-apoptotic, BAX promotes cell death. Apoptosis regulation involves homo- and heterodimerization of BAX and Bcl-2 isoforms.
The Bax gene encodes isoforms Bax alpha (21 kDa) and Bax beta (24 kDa). Both have BH1, BH2, and BH3 domains; Bax beta lacks a hydrophobic transmembrane domain.
Bcl-2 isoforms include Bcl-2 alpha (26 kDa) and Bcl-2 beta (22 kDa), differing in C-terminus and UTR sequences.
Overexpression of BAX promotes apoptosis through dimerization with other Bcl-2 family proteins.
