Target Information
CD146 (MCAM) is an integral membrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed at cell–cell junctions in endothelial cells and in various normal and malignant cell types. CD146 functions as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule and may act as a signal transduction molecule by recruiting Fyn kinase, leading to tyrosine phosphorylation of intracellular proteins involved in actin cytoskeleton assembly. It plays key roles in cell adhesion, endothelial monolayer cohesion, and may facilitate melanoma cell interaction with vascular elements, promoting tumor spread. Additionally, CD146 may function as an adhesion molecule in neural crest cells during embryonic development and as a surface receptor triggering phosphorylation events and calcium signaling.
