Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α and two β rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent process outside lysosomes.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
The PSMB9 gene encodes a 20S core β subunit of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, located in the class II region of the MHC. Proteolytic processing is required to generate the mature subunit.
