Target Information
AMPK beta 1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK).
AMPK is a heterotrimer consisting of an alpha catalytic subunit and non-catalytic beta and gamma subunits.
It functions as an energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status.
Upon activation by metabolic stress, AMPK phosphorylates and inactivates acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), key enzymes in fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta-1 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and influence enzyme localization through myristoylation and phosphorylation.
It may also act as an adaptor molecule mediating AMPK complex assembly.
