Target Information
Glycosyl hydrolase enzymes hydrolyze the glycosidic bond between carbohydrates or between a carbohydrate and a non-carbohydrate moiety.
The GANC gene encodes a member of glycosyl hydrolases family 31, which hydrolyzes terminal, non-reducing 1,4-linked alpha-D-glucose residues and releases alpha-D-glucose.
This enzyme plays a key role in glycogen metabolism and is localized to chromosome region 15q15, associated with susceptibility to diabetes.
