Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCE (PKC epsilon), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and substrate specificity. PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma form the conventional family, with Ca²⁺ and phospholipid dependence. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and are involved in multiple signaling pathways. They also act as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each member has a specific expression profile and cellular role.
