Target Information

Epithelial sodium channels (ENaC) are amiloride-sensitive members of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (Deg/ENaC) superfamily of ion channels. These channels have two short intracellular termini, two transmembrane segments, and a large extracellular loop with a conserved cysteine-rich region.
ENaC isoforms (α, β, γ) are expressed in kidney, lung, and colon, playing crucial roles in sodium and fluid balance.
ENaC mediates aldosterone-dependent sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron, regulating blood pressure.
Association with CFTR chloride channels contributes to regulation.
Mutations in ENaC subunits are linked to Liddle’s syndrome (hypertension) and pseudohypoaldosteronism (PHA-1).
