Target Information
Desmoglein 3 (Dsg3), also known as Cadherin family member 6 (CDHF6), is a desmosomal cadherin that plays a crucial role in cell-cell adhesion. It is predominantly expressed in stratified squamous epithelium such as skin, oral mucosa, and esophagus.
Dsg3 is identified as the auto-antigen in pemphigus vulgaris (PV), a severe autoimmune disease. Binding of anti-Dsg3 autoantibodies causes loss of cell-cell adhesion, resulting in blister formation on skin and mucosa and histologically observed as suprabasilar acantholysis.
