Target Information
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an essential cellular process for degrading abnormal or short-lived proteins. Ubiquitination involves three classes of enzymes:
- Ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s)
- Ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s)
- Ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s)
The Rad6 gene encodes a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family, which is required for post-replicative DNA damage repair. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, encoding distinct isoforms.
