Target Information

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease belonging to the kallikrein family, produced by prostate epithelium and abundant in seminal fluid. PSA can be detected in sera of patients with prostatic carcinoma, predominantly complexed with alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (ACT).
A higher proportion of PSA–ACT complexes are found in prostate cancer compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia. PSA serves as a marker to confirm prostatic acinar cell origin in primary and metastatic carcinoma and to exclude non-prostatic carcinoma mimics.
