Target Information
Plakophilin-3 is an Armadillo-like protein present in nuclei and desmosomes of epithelial cells. The expression pattern of this protein is largely restricted to epithelial cell types. It can be detected along cell borders in a punctate staining pattern typical for desmosomal proteins. In addition to desmosomal localization, immunostaining shows bright nuclear speckles. Like plakophilin-1 and -2, plakophilin-3 displays dual intracellular localization in the desmosomal plaque and nucleus, suggesting involvement in signal transduction between plasma membrane and nucleus. The human protein has a predicted molecular mass of approximately 87 kDa.
