Target Information
UPF3B is a component of a post-splicing multiprotein complex involved in both mRNA nuclear export and mRNA surveillance. It functions as a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein that binds mRNA and remains associated after nuclear export. UPF3B forms a complex with Y14 that binds approximately 20 nucleotides upstream of exon-exon junctions. This gene is located on the long arm of chromosome X and has two known splice variants encoding different isoforms. The protein contributes to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), which degrades mRNAs containing premature stop codons.
