Product Specific Information

Description:
The OKT4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface glycoprotein expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T-helper cells, and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV. The OKT4 antibody recognizes a different epitope than the RPA-T4 antibody, and these do not cross-block each other.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended ≤1 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Storage and Handling:
Use in sterile environment.

Filtration:
0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Purity:

90%, determined by SDS-PAGE.

Endotoxin Level:
<0.001 ng/µg antibody (LAL assay).

Aggregation:
<10%, determined by HPLC.


Target Information

CD4 antigen recognizes MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper lymphocytes but also found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and some non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. It participates in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. CD4 may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
