Target Information
The Axin-related protein, Axin2, plays an important role in regulating β-catenin stability in the Wnt signaling pathway. In mouse, conductin (homolog of Axin2) forms a multiprotein complex with APC, β-catenin, and GSK3β, leading to β-catenin degradation. Deregulation of β-catenin is implicated in various malignancies.
The AXIN2 gene is located at 17q23–q24, a region frequently showing loss of heterozygosity in cancers such as breast cancer and neuroblastoma. Mutations in this gene are associated with colorectal cancer with defective mismatch repair.
