Target Information

Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein found in mesenchymal cells. It plays a role in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane.
During early cellular development, vimentin is co-expressed with desmin and later replaced by tissue-specific intermediate filament proteins.
Vimentin is involved in steroid synthesis regulation by serving as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets.
Phosphorylation of vimentin triggers filament breakdown and cytoskeletal remodeling, facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria and enhancing steroidogenesis.
