Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of BAD only when phosphorylated at Ser118, a site historically referenced as Ser155.
Target Information
The BAD protein belongs to the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death (apoptosis). BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic effects. Its proapoptotic activity is regulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and the phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing of the BAD gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
