CD21 (Complement Receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor)은 C3 보체 단편과 결합하며, 면역복합체의 섭취 및 유지, 기억 B세포의 생존, T-의존성 항원에 대한 체액성 면역반응의 발달과 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 Epstein-Barr 바이러스의 수용체로 작용하며, 프리온을 여포 수지상세포로 유도하고 신경 침투를 촉진하는 데 관여합니다.
CD21은 C3d, C3dg, iC3b, EBV, IFNα의 수용체로 기능하며, CD23과 결합하고 CD19, CD81, Leu13과 연관되어 B세포 활성화에 관여하는 신호전달 복합체를 형성합니다.
유전자 변이는 전신홍반루푸스 9형(SLEB9) 감수성과 관련이 있으며, 다양한 스플라이싱 변이체가 보고되었습니다.
