Product Specific Information

  • Antibody is stable for 24 months.
  • Positive Control: HeLa or U87 cells
  • Cellular Localization: Nucleus

Specificity Comments:
This gene encodes a transcription factor that is a member of the leucine zipper family of DNA binding proteins. The encoded protein performs mechanistically distinct functions, binding to the cAMP-responsive element (CRE), forming homodimers or heterodimers with c-Jun, and stimulating CRE-dependent transcription.
It also acts as a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) that acetylates histones H2B and H4 in vitro, representing sequence-specific factors that activate transcription through chromatin modification.
Additionally, ATF2 may participate in the DNA damage response independently of its transcriptional role. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants are known.
Predicted to react in mouse and rat.

Target Information

ATF-2 (also known as CRE-BP1) is a transcription factor that binds AP-1 and CRE DNA response elements and belongs to the ATF/CREB family of leucine zipper proteins. It interacts with viral oncoproteins and tumor suppressors, serving as a target for SAPK/JNK and p38 MAPK signaling pathways.
ATF-2 activity is stimulated by cellular stress such as genotoxic agents, inflammatory cytokines, and UV irradiation. Stress induces phosphorylation at Thr69 and Thr71 by SAPK and p38 MAPK, activating ATF-2 transcriptional function.
