Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the folate receptor family. These proteins bind folic acid and its reduced derivatives, transporting 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into cells. The gene product can be membrane-anchored via glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exist in soluble form. Mutations are linked to neurodegeneration due to cerebral folate transport deficiency. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein exist due to alternative promoters and splicing.
