Target Information

SMAD3 belongs to the SMAD family of proteins, which are homologous to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways. SMAD3 functions as a transcriptional modulator activated by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) and is implicated in the regulation of carcinogenesis.
