Target Information
Protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) is a multifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the formation, breakage, and rearrangement of disulfide bonds.
At the cell surface, PDI acts as a reductase modifying exofacial proteins.
Inside the cell, it assists in disulfide bond formation and rearrangement of nascent proteins.
At high concentrations, it functions as a chaperone preventing aggregation of misfolded proteins; at low concentrations, it facilitates aggregation (anti-chaperone activity).
PDI also serves as a structural subunit in enzymes such as prolyl 4-hydroxylase and microsomal triacylglycerol transfer protein (MTTP).
It acts as a receptor for LGALS9, retaining P4HB at the cell surface of Th2 T helper cells, enhancing disulfide reductase activity and cell migration.
