This antibody is specific for Rat B2M/beta-2 microglobulin.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I. It is expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
B2M is homologous to immunoglobulin constant regions, primarily composed of beta-pleated sheets, and plays roles in antigen processing, presentation, and TCR signaling in naïve CD8+ cells.
The B2M gene is located on chromosome 15; mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia. Beta-2 microglobulin levels are used as renal function and HIV prognostic markers.
