This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
This antibody has specificity for Rat CD48/SLAMF2.

Target Information

CD48 (Blast-1) belongs to the CD2 subset of the immunoglobulin superfamily, including CD2, CD58, CD84, CD150, CD229, CD244, and others. These molecules mediate homotypic or heterotypic adhesion by binding to members of the same family.

CD48 is a GPI-anchored protein broadly expressed on hematopoietic cells and serves as a high-affinity ligand for 2B4 and a low-affinity ligand for CD2. The 2B4–CD48 interaction among NK and NK-T cells regulates cell proliferation. CD48 signaling leads to eosinophil activation, and its expression increases in several infectious diseases.

CD48 is strongly expressed on lymphocytes and monocytes, weakly on granulocytes, but absent on platelets, fibroblasts, epithelium, and endothelium. It serves as a marker for detecting GPI anchoring defects in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and may be involved in allergic airway disease pathology, offering a potential pharmacological target for conditions such as allergic rhinitis and asthma.
