Target Information
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It is formed by decarboxylation of glutamate and acts through two receptor types: GABA-A and GABA-B.
Binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion transport into neurons, leading to signal inhibition.
Deficiency in GABA-mediated signaling can cause uncontrolled neuronal activity, resulting in blackouts, rapid body contractions, seizures, and epilepsy.
