Product Specific Information

Specific for the nucleoprotein of the SARS virus (IFA & ELISA) and COVID-19 virus (ELISA). Negative for human coronaviruses 229E & OC43. Reactive with the nucleocapsids of variants: UK B.1.1.7, SA B.1.351, Brazil P.1, and B.1.617.2.

Purified preparations consist of >90% pure mouse monoclonal antibody purified from ascites fluid by protein A chromatography. The final preparation is formulated to a protein concentration of 100 µg/mL in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.2, and contains 0.1% sodium azide. Each vial contains 1.0 mL. This product contains no stabilizing proteins and should be stored at 4°C until ready for use. Working dilution must be determined by the user. Suggested starting ranges are 1:10–1:50 for ICC/IF and 1:20–1:200 for ELISA.


Target Information

Human coronaviruses are major causes of upper respiratory tract illness, such as the common cold. Coronaviruses are positive-stranded RNA viruses with large genomes (27–31 kb). The first step in infection involves binding of the viral spike protein (139 kDa) to host cell receptors. The spike protein is the main surface antigen. The most prominent protein in SARS virus-infected cultures is a 46 kDa nucleocapsid protein, suggesting its utility in early diagnostics. SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein is associated with nucleic acid and is the most abundant coronavirus protein. Due to its strong immunogenicity, the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein has potential diagnostic value.
