Myeloperoxidase (MPO)는 골수 세포 분화 과정에서 합성되는 헴 단백질로, 호중구 아주로필 과립의 주요 구성 요소입니다. 전구체 형태로 생성되어 경쇄(light chain)와 중쇄(heavy chain)로 절단되며, 성숙한 MPO는 2개의 경쇄와 2개의 중쇄로 이루어진 사량체(tetramer) 구조를 가집니다. 이 효소는 호중구의 미생물 살균 활성에 중요한 hypohalous acid를 생성합니다. MPO 관련 질환으로는 Myeloperoxidase 결핍증과 가족성 알츠하이머병 1형 등이 알려져 있습니다.
