Collagen type I는 연조직과 뼈의 주요 구성 성분으로, 전체 유기 매트릭스의 약 90%를 차지합니다. Procollagen은 두 말단 propeptide가 절단되어 collagen으로 전환되며, 이 propeptide는 혈중에서 콜라겐 생성의 지표로 측정될 수 있습니다. 혈청 내 높은 propeptide 수치는 다양한 골대사 이상 환자에서 관찰됩니다. Procollagen type I C-terminal propeptide (PICP)의 분자량은 약 100 kDa이며, 정상 혈청 농도는 연령과 성별에 따라 다릅니다.
