Target Information
The 14-3-3 theta gene product belongs to the 14-3-3 family of proteins, which mediate signal transduction by binding to phosphoserine-containing proteins. This highly conserved family is found in both plants and mammals, and this protein shares 99% identity with mouse and rat orthologs. The gene is upregulated in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and contains a polymorphic 6 bp tandem repeat in its 5′ UTR, though this variation is not correlated with disease.
