Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron-transporting protein located within the mitochondrial intermembrane space, playing a critical role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. Upon apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds to apoptotic protease activating factor, initiating procaspase-9 activation. Cytosolic cytochrome C further activates caspase-3, a key effector of apoptosis.
