Target Information
CpG methylation is an epigenetic modification essential for embryonic development, imprinting, and X-chromosome inactivation. Studies in mice have shown that DNA methylation is required for mammalian development. This gene encodes a protein similar to DNA methyltransferases but lacks methyltransferase activity. The protein strongly binds DNA, suggesting it may mark specific genomic sequences. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
