Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin receptor family, crucial for T cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation. It is mainly expressed on T cells as a CD8α/CD8β heterodimer acting as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules. CD8α can also form homodimers expressed on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Upon MHC-I/peptide complex binding, CD8 recruits Lck kinase, leading to lymphokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs are essential for pathogen and tumor cell clearance, with differentiation enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
