Product Specific Information
Antibody detects endogenous levels of c-Myc only when phosphorylated at Ser293.
Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK has been linked to cell proliferation regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc can induce apoptosis in different cell types.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to amino or carboxy termini.
Amplification of c-Myc is observed in several human tumors (lung, breast, colon carcinomas), while N-Myc amplification is found in neuroblastomas.
Translocation of the c-Myc locus to immunoglobulin loci is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative conditions.
Aberrant c-Myc expression occurs in tumors of diverse origins including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
