Target Information

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a family of peroxidases involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins (approximately 50 isoforms) are classified based on amino acid sequence homology and antioxidant activity.

Mammalian Prxs include six members:

• Typical 2-Cys Prx: Prx I, II, III, IV, V
• Atypical 2-Cys Prx and 1-Cys Prx: Prx VI

Except for Prx VI (1-Cys subgroup), other 2-Cys Prx isotypes have thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity, utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as a reducing system.

Mammalian Prxs have molecular weights of 20–30 kDa and vary in subcellular localization:

• Cytosol: Prx I, II, VI
• Mitochondria: Prx III
• ER and secretion: Prx IV
• Peroxisome, mitochondria, cytosol: Prx V
