Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Evidence suggests that many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and may serve as novel biomarkers for cancer and other diseases. This gene is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in tandem on chromosome 19. The encoded protein may participate in proteolytic cascades in the skin and serve as a biomarker for ovarian cancer. Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
