Target Information
The Schlafen (SLFN) family of proteins are preferentially expressed in lymphoid tissues and are differentially regulated during thymocyte maturation. SLFN genes are thought to play roles in:
- Cell growth
- Hemopoietic cell differentiation
- T cell development and maturation
Most members contain a divergent AAA domain (AAA_4) involved in ATP binding.
Human SLFN12, also known as SLFN3, has relatively low homology to SLFN3 in other species.
Loss of the SLFN12 gene is associated with Kabuki syndrome, suggesting a potential role in this genetic condition.
