Target Information

E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin) is a classical cadherin belonging to the calcium-dependent adhesion protein superfamily. It is a cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail.
Mutations in this gene are associated with gastric, breast, colorectal, thyroid, and ovarian cancers. Loss of E-cadherin function promotes cancer progression by increasing proliferation, invasion, and metastasis.
The ectodomain mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells, while the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization.
E-cadherin plays a crucial role in tissue architecture and integrity. In humans, the CDH1 gene encoding E-cadherin is located on chromosome 16.
Reduced or lost E-cadherin expression in carcinomas correlates with increased invasiveness and metastatic potential.
