Target Information
SMG5 plays a role in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD).
It does not have RNase activity by itself but promotes dephosphorylation of RENT1 and is necessary for TERT activity.
SMG5 is involved in NMD as described by Ohnishi et al., 2003 (PubMed 14636577).
