Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation.
MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx.
MEK1 activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1.
It participates in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in this gene can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
