Target Information
The GHRL gene encodes the ghrelin-obestatin preproprotein, which generates ghrelin and obestatin.
- Ghrelin is the ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 and regulates growth hormone release.
- It has an appetite-stimulating effect, induces adiposity, and stimulates gastric acid secretion.
- Obestatin may act as a ligand for the orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPR39 and is involved in satiety, potentially reducing food intake.
