Target Information
SNAP23 is an essential component of the high-affinity receptor for general membrane fusion machinery and regulates transport vesicle docking and fusion.
SNAP25 is involved in the molecular regulation of neurotransmitter release and may play an important role in synaptic function.
Both proteins associate with vesicle docking and membrane fusion machinery and regulate plasma membrane recycling via interaction with CENPF.
Subcellular Localization:
- SNAP-23: Cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cell junction; Synapse; Synaptosome. Mainly localized to the plasma membrane.
- SNAP-25: Cytoplasm; Perinuclear region; Cell membrane (lipid-anchored); Cell junction; Synapse; Synaptosome. Membrane association requires palmitoylation.
