Target Information

TRPC4 is a member of the canonical subfamily of transient receptor potential cation channels. It forms a non-selective calcium-permeable cation channel activated by Gq-coupled receptors and tyrosine kinases. TRPC4 plays roles in endothelial permeability, vasodilation, neurotransmitter release, and cell proliferation. SNPs in TRPC4 may be associated with generalized epilepsy with photosensitivity. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms have been observed.

The TRPC subfamily (TRPC1–7) is closely related to the founding Drosophila TRP channel. Diseases associated with TRPC4 include photosensitive epilepsy. CaV3.3 encodes a low voltage-activated, T-type calcium channel involved in neuronal calcium signaling. Voltage-gated calcium channels (CaV) mediate calcium influx in excitable cells and regulate intracellular processes such as contraction, secretion, neurotransmission, and gene expression. CACNA1I mutations are linked to childhood absence epilepsy.
