Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL12A) is a signaling cytokine belonging to the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. The IL-12A alpha chain precursor (35 kDa) forms a disulfide-linked heterodimer of cytokine IL-12 and exhibits diverse biological activities.
IL-12A functions as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhancing NK and lymphokine-activated killer cell lytic activity. It stimulates IFN-γ production by resting PBMCs and mediates both T-cell-dependent and -independent induction of IFN-γ, contributing to Th1 and Th2 cell differentiation.
Additionally, IL-12A positively regulates tyrosine phosphorylation of Stat4 protein and requires nitric oxide synthase 2A for innate immune signaling. Together with EBI3, IL-12A forms interleukin-35 (IL-35), a heterodimeric cytokine produced by regulatory T cells, essential for maximal suppressive activity.
